Short biography of Joseph COCKS

Joseph COCKS was baptized on April 13^th 1823 at Steeple Bumpstead, Essex, England.

His parents are Charles COCKS and Susannah (…).

Josiah was a farm labourer.

Josiah got married on July 1^st 1850 at Independent Chapel of Steeple Bumpstead, Essex, England with Matilda WHIPPS.

They had at least eight children :

- Julia COCKS, born in November 1851 and baptized on November 30^th 1851 at Steeple Bumpstead, Essex. Burial on May 25^th 1870 at Steeple B., she was 18 years old.

- Caleb Elliot COCKS, baptized on September 28^th 1856 at Steeple B.;

- Ruth Dorcas COCKS, baptized on August 29^th 1858 at Steeple B.;

- Sampson Cyprus COCKS, born on May 18^th 1860 at Steeple B. and baptized on June 24^th 1860 at Steeple B.;

- Goliath Julius/Silius COCKS, born on December 8^th 1861 at Steeple B. and baptized on February 23^rd 1862 at Steeple B.;

- Ralph Joshua COCKS, baptized on March 27^th 1864 at Steeple B.;

- Faith Ella/Ellen COCKS, baptized on June 25^th 1865 at Steeple B., died on March 5^th 1867 at Steeple B. She was 2 years old. Burial on March 7^th 1867 at Steeple B.

- Titus COCKS, baptized on July 22^nd 1866 at Steeple B.; Burial on May 20th 1868 at Steeple B. He was 2 years old.

Josiah appears in the British Census for the years 1831, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881.

Josiah became a widow on June 24^th 1867 as his wife Matilda WHIPPS died at age of 39 years old of phthisis.

Josiah died on November 27^th 1882 at Steeple Bumpstead. He was 60 years old. His burial was on December 2^nd 1882 at Steeple Bumpstead.
