Biography of Sampson Cyprus COCKS
Sampson
Cyprus COCKS was born on May 18th 1860 at Steeple Bumpstead, Essex,
England. He was baptized on June
24th 1860 at Steeple Bumpstead, Essex, England.
His parents
were Joseph/Josiah
COCKS and Matilda WHIPPS.
According to
the family history, Sampson was an engineer in England.
Sampson got
married the first time in England.
On October 10th of the year 1886, he married Mary Ann AGER
at Greenwich, London, England.
They had
only one son named Josiah COCKS.
Sampson
appears in the British Census for the years 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911. His work is
“labourer”.
There was a
period in the life of Sampson that he served in the Army. It is very difficult for me to find
that information although there are a lot of web pages on the subject. Sampson did not participate at the
Boers’s War nor the WW1. I
do have a picture of him in uniform, but I do not know from where and
when. Maybe some reader could help
me with it.

I know that
the picture if of bad quality, but this is the only I have got from him. I will try to make it clearer with
Adobe Photoshop.
Sampson came
to America in 1908. Unfortunately,
her wife died on the boat while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Sampson and his son Josiah of 20 years
old were on their own in Canada.
In Canada,
Sampson was a labourer.
Sampson got
remarried on May 12th 1912 at St-Peter’s Church of Quebec with
Elizabeth Messenger (parents not known).
They never had any children.
Sampson died
on November 21st 1928 at Quebec City. He was buried the day after at Mount Hermon Cemetery of
Sillery, Quebec, CANADA.
