Already
in 1934 "Traction Avant" as everybody called it dissociates contemporary
automobile creations by it's on road qualities.
This was partly due to this
traction which drew the car, rather then to push it, but also with
the "full steel" unit body which ensured the excellent rigidity,
the long wheelbase, the flattened line and an almost ideal distribution
of the masses.
This was particularly true for
the "7" and "1 ". The superior motorization ("15" and "22") with
there definitely heavier engines could not claim for such a good
balance. It is thus in 1934 that were born the "7", "11" and the
mythical "22", the "15" was
born only in 1937. The "7" and "11" which body's were lighter then
the so called "Normal 11" and their luxurious sister, which made
them much more efficient.
Beyond their road qualities,
these Traction were also comfortable and roomy cars and were in
their time... considering that the last ones came out of the factory
in 1956. They had then taken there toll. It should be said that
revolutionary DS introduced in 1955 did not do anything to help
them...
We will have to wait a few decades
so that their obsolete charm becomes again fashionable.
