Byther Smith (Chicago)
Ancien boxeur, "Smitty" est à prendre au sérieux. Son jeu
intense et animal appuie des textes qui, loin de la rectitude politique,
sont menaçants et nourris du langage de la rue. Byther Smith est de la
génération des bluesmen de l'après-guerre qui tentèrent leur
chance à Chicago. J.B. Lenoir, Robert Jr. Lockwood et Hubert Sumlin
furent ses mentors. Il a joué pour Howlin' Wolf, Junior Wells, Big Mama
Thornton, George "Harmonica" Smith et Otis Rush. Artiste méconnu
du grand public, ce n'est seulement que depuis quelques années qu'il récolte

Like the boxer he once was, Byther`s musical style is to keep

his reach. An explosive performer, his blistering economical
guitar style propels a
churning funk topped with bleak and violent images delivered with
gut-wrenching vocals.
There`s no place for compromise in Smitty`s world. His songs
are tormented reflections
on life`s misfortunes, tortured testimonials of personal loss and harsh
realities reflecting a
