- Review from "Unrestrained!", No. 13 : DIVINE SYNDROME Pulsatory Paradigm (Frowz) It is interesting to see and hear a new band from Canada and see just wich route the band will opt to take. Will they stick to a certain scene or sound or focus on their material and not be afraid to branch out? Just so ya know, Quebec's Divine Syndrome have opted to stir things up a bit (applause!) with the mixing of clean and death metal vocals and numerous other bizarre ideas, all clashing in a glorious assault titled "Pulsatory Paradigm." A promising act that could easily spread like wild fire should they get some exposure. Choice cuts : "Inertia" and "For all those who died." <A. Bromlygt> -9-

(So many things, that need to be said!) -Lou- |

- Review from WAREFARE REACORDS : DIVINE SYNDROME / Pulsatory Paradigm Frowz Productions Review by André Pitre DIVINE SYNDROME is the proof that the Quebec metal scene is the best in the world. They come from nowhere (from Quebec city actually) and yet, they just put togheter a hell of an album! The production is surprisingly excellent, being recorded by Nick Tremblay. They have the usual Quebec metal band sound, i.e. crisp guitar and drum with the bass-drum souding like a dog walking on a wooden floor. They are into this melodic trend (but it is still pretty heavy music!), with passages demanding high levels of creativity and others a little bit too much cliché for me. The musicians are very competent, and their performance is near-mint. The only ingredient missing is maturity, and maybe the clean vocals would need a little more work since they like to use them alot. If you live in the province of Quebec and you like local products, buy this album. If you live outside of Quebec's boundaries, BUY THIS ALBUM LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. No seriously, this product is my lock of the week, and I am looking forward to their next album which I hope will have the extra ingredients missing. Buy this CD now !!!

- From the web site "darksymphonies.com" : DIVINE SYNDROME (Que) Pulsatory Paradigm (Frowz) CD....$10.00 The ultimate experience of Avantgarde, melodic Thrash/Prog/Death/Black Metal music with interwoven folk and ethereal atmospheres, both clean male and black/death vocals and diverse, musical complexity and technicality. Overall, laden with originality, unique musical structure and top notch production. Slight hints of Borknagar, Theory in Practice and Dark Tranquility can be heard, however Divine Syndrome's brand of futuristic technical death metal has a sound all its own.

- From the web site "Burn the Sun" August 8th 2000 : PULSATORY PARADIGM I'm not quite sure what to make of this young band. At times, Divine Syndrome sounds like technical Death Metal a la The Gallery era Dark Tranquillity while other times finds it sounding like spaced out cyber veterans (and fellow Canadians) Voivod. Even with comparisons to these established bands, Divine Syndrome has created a rather unique sound for itself, and Pulsatory Paradigm isn't likely to sound like anything else you've heard this year. The musicianship is high, and the songwriting strong, but much of the uniqueness lies at the feet of vocalist Vincent Nantel. His Death vocals are quiet accomplished, but it's his clean vocals that will either make or break this disc for you. They sound, well, jarring...like they don't fit with the music. It reminds me of how I felt the first time I listen to Auberon. Nantel switches between clean and growling vocals regularly throughout Pulsatory Paradigm with some tracks containing only clean vocals. When the clean vocals come in, nothing seems to fit together. This, however, is only an illusion. Nantel's vocals, while difficult to adjust to, create an undeniable hook that draws you deep into Divine Syndrome's sound. That some of the lyrics are sung in French only adds to the surreal feel. Admittedly, this CD took me many, many listens to get into, but once I embraced Nantel's unique style, I was treated to one of the freshest sounding CDs this year. Make no mistake, Pulstaory Paradigm is an excellent CD, just don't expect to like it the first (or fifth) time through. POSTED 08 AUGUST 2000

Rendement : 8.5/10 |
