Bit later than I anticipated, but here is my review of the latest CD-ROM program from Playboy.

Playboy's Playmate Calendar 1999 Collector's Edition CD-ROM (Playboy Enterprises Inc.)

Playboy followed their rather successful Voluptuous Vixens CD-ROM program with one based on their annual feature of Playmates. Playboy has been running an annual video of their Playboy Calendar for over ten years, and they figured this year they would take it to the next step - by creating a multimedia program based on the video.

Now contrary to expectations, this has little to do with a calendar and everything to do with showcasing the beautiful women who appear in the 1999 Playboy Calendar. As with all the recent multimedia programs Playboy has offered, this program features video clips from their video tape as well as a wide range of images, many of them unpublished.

The interface of the program is similar to that of Vixens, right down to the control panel you have to dig for to use. This hidden function may have been easily excused in Vixens, but to make that mistake a second time does not bode well for the program.

It would have been great if Playboy included something to do with the calendar itself. Perhaps an addition to their old PlanIt Playboy organizer, or even including the demo version. Something that would have picked up on the calendar aspect of the theme besides simply the multimedia. However, that does not detract from the quality of the multimedia display itself, which is, as always, first-rate.
