Here is the promised but belated review of India Allen's recent movie production.

Title: The Chosen One: Legend of the Raven
Starring: Carmen Electra and Shauna Sand
Directed by: Lawrence Ranoff
Produced by: India Allen [Rose] and James Velasquez
Released by: Troma Team
Available now for rental nationwide at Blockbuster.

Synopsis: The age old confrontation between Good [the Raven] and Evil [the Wolf] stands at a [periodic] crossroads in the Los Angeles basin, present day. Champions are chosen and prepared for battle. Emma, the champion of Good [Shauna Sand] is prematurely and scurrilously struck down. Her amulet of power and duty fall to her unprepared and reluctant older sister McKenna [Carmen Electra.] Will McKenna be trained and outfitted in time?...

Effective champions of Good need a healthy sex life and McKenna is no exception. Never mind that nagging time pressure when there is a bottle of milk and a handsome sheriff's deputy at hand. And don't give getting killed by drug dealers a second thought, she has her trusty amulet of power to bring her back to life. When the champion of Evil knocks off a serial killer and those very same drug dealers, all without harming a single innocent [one of which is played by Playmate Priscilla Taylor]; we never question the moral imperative of our champion of "Good." The respective white and black nail polish clearly indicates who we should root for and against. In the final confrontation, much-touted super-duper magical powers prove ridiculously ineffective while old-fashioned fisticuffs and a simple kick in the head carry the day.

Comments: Carmen is the centerpiece of this production. Gorgeous, vulnerable, sensual, seductive, heroic; she's all that and on cue too. Her dazzling blue eyes and that very lactose-tolerant love scene may be worth the rental price all by themselves. On the other hand, Shauna is just too soft and sugary for the part of an avenging spirit counselor [though arguably thats why the story killed off her character.] And the story is as cheesy and morally ambivalent as it sounds. Fork out $3.19 at Blockbuster if you haven't seen enough of Carmen, but give it a pass otherwise.

P.S. Mentioning God in the credits earns the productions staff a few points in my book.
