I was in my local Suncoast Video store today and picked up a copy of the 1998 Playmate of the Year video. I was very surprised to see it for sale there, given that the PMOY has not yet been formally announced!
While I think it's pretty good as a Playboy video, as a PMOY video I'd rate it a bit below average. I think they put way too much makeup on her, and the camera keeps repeating the same "move" over and over and over again -- starting at her pubic area, hands in front, camera pans up her body, hands moving up too, over her breasts, up to her face, yes the hands go to there, too. I didn't count, but that same move must have been used more than 30 times...
I enjoyed the beginning of the video more than the later parts. There was a cute segment where they did a "popup video"-style thing a la VH1 (although Dean didn't think it was cute -- he thought it was laughable -- but hey, I liked it!).
I have a gripe with the box on this video -- all the pictures are so obviously digitized that if you look at it closer than from an arm's length away, you can see the pixels. On the front picture, this is *really* evident around her mouth; and ALL the back cover pictures are pretty bad in the same way. It was the first thing I noticed.
Yes, I know I haven't named "her" -- after all, the announcement hasn't been made yet!

I finally saw Karen McDougal's PMOY video. For those who haven't seen it yet but plan to, be prepared to see this camera pan repeated over and over: knees, up to the thighs, past the hips, up to her breasts, and finishing at her smiling face. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the view, it's just the repetition of the camera that gets tiring.
Something new was the "Pop-Up Playmate" video.. obviously playing on VH1's "Pop-Up Video." I enjoyed it. Even the free plug for the Playmate Hot Line got a few chuckles from me. And to answer the question raised, yes, I would like to be that clarinet.. Except, unfortunately, she already has a boyfriend. (Nuts, nuts, NUTS!) And I suspect that he made his appearance in the video as well. (A pair of matching rings on the right hand gives it away.)
Hidden in the box were a couple of fliers:
Playboy's Playmates Revisited Video: The return appearance of past Playmates in all-new footage, including India Allen, Ava Fabian, Susie Scott, Kathy Shower, Cathy St. George, Lillian Muller, Cynthia Brimhall, and Barbara Edwards.
As a personal note, one of the very first Playboy videos I ever got was the second Playboy Video Magazine (remember those?), which featured Cynthia Brimhall. I look forward to seeing Cynthia in some new footage.
The other soon-to-be released product will be Playboy's Voluptuous Vixens on CD-ROM. I'm hoping that this CD-ROM program will be more like the Playmate Portfolio program than the Babes of Baywatch. (For newbies who haven't read my reviews of both programs, E-mail me for them.)
Both the video and the CD-ROM will be available in stores on July 14th.
