Identifying files with AutoSort
The first thing you need to do with AutoSort is to identify some files. To do so, select [File] » [Identify Files...] from the program's main menu. After you've selected the desired options, AutoSort will scan every file in the folder you've selected and will attempt to match them to celebrities in it's database.
The identification results will then be presented in the main window where you will verify the results and modify them as required before finally moving / copying the files to their respective folders.

SELECT FOLDER
This option group allows you to select which folder (directory) to scan. The folder you select should contain celebrity related files such as pictures, movies, etc.
Folder Box - You can either type in the path of the folder you want to scan or use the [...] button to browse for a folder. A history of the 10 most recently used folders is available by clicking the little down arrow at the end of this box.
Process selected folder and all sub-folders - Setting this option will make AutoSort scan your selected folder and additionally any sub-folder it may contain recursively.
Process selected folder only - Setting this option will limit AutoSort to scanning the files that are directly in the selected folder and completely ignore any sub folder it might have.
FILE TYPE FILTERING
This option group allows you to limit the file scan to certain types of files such as pictures or movies via the use of filters. You may define your own filters, modify or delete the default ones. AutoSort determines the type of a file by looking at it's extention. IE: '___.JPG' or '___.AVI'
Filtering Mode Selection Box - This is where you select the filtering mode or disable filtering all together. You can select any of the three possible values.
- Process All Files (No Filtering) - This completely disables file type filtering and causes AutoSort to scan all files, regardless of their type. This also disables the list box and the edit buttons below. To interact with the type list or edit the file types, select one of the other modes.
Process Selected Types Only - This enables filtering and effectively limits the scan to files that match the selected (checked) filter(s) and completely disregards any other file types. Exclude All Selected Types - This enables filtering and causes AutoSort to scan all files of all types *except* the types that match the selected (checked) filter(s).Filter List box - This box lists all currently defined file type filters. These may be default filters, or filters that you have created. A filter consists of a name and one or more file extention(s). Before you can interact with this list, you need to enable filtering. See 'Mode Selection Box' above. Each file type filter has a check box beside it. This is how you enable or disable a specific filter. A check mark means enabled. Note that a checked filter has no effect unless you have selected a filtering mode.
New... / Modify... / Delete buttons - These allow you to customize the filters in the list box. The New... and Modify... buttons will bring up a small editor window(see below) where you can enter the required information. Note that the Modify... and Delete buttons will not be available until you select an filter to operate on in the list box.
FILE TYPE FILTER EDITOR
This window allows you to enter the information required to create new or modify existing file type filters.

Filter Name - This is the name of the filter, as it appears in the File Types List box. If left blank, the filter will be displayed as whatever you put in the File Entention(s)
File Entention(s) - This is where you define all file extentions that are part of this filter. Do not enter the dot part of the extention, for example, enter 'BMP' instead of '.BMP'
A filter may contain as many extentions as you like, as long as you separate them with a space character.
AUTOMATICALLY CHECK POSITIVE IDENTIFICATIONS
This option, when turned on, causes AutoSort to evaluate the identifications performed on your files and automatically select (red check mark) the appropriate celebrity when it's confidence level about the identification is very high. Although this option is very accurate and can save you a considerable amount of time, it can occasionally make wrong assumptions and cause some files to be tossed to the wrong folders.
