The main window in AutoSort
AutoSort's main window display is used to present file identification results and to allow the user to make any desired changes and/or manual identifications.
Main Window Display (Figure
1)
The information is displayed in a hierarchical tree view that uses the following form. Each level in the hierarchy can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on the little + or - icon.
+ Section: The window contains three main root sections. Every file scanned during the identification session will end up in one of those root sections depending on initial identification success.
+ Series: Inside those sections you will find that your files have been categorized by series of similar file names. This means you can perform operations on series of files rather than having to do it for every single file.
+ File(s): Inside those series you will find the files themselves.
+ Celeb(s): Each files also contains zero or more suggested celebrity(ies).
THE THREE MAIN ROOT SECTIONS
A root section is identified by it's yellow folder icon. The main window always contains three root sections. Those sections are used to categorize your identified files depending on initial identification results.
Root Sections (Figure 2)
The three root sections have the following meaning:
Hint: You can quickly expand or collapse a root section by double clicking on it.
THE SIMILAR FILE NAME SERIES
File series are identified by their yellow folder icons and their bolded text. (See Figure 1)
These series are used to group files with very similar file names that are likely to be related to the same celebrity. This makes it a breeze to perform operations that would otherwise require you to perform the same operations on several individual files.
Generaly, file series operations are performed by using the right mouse button on them. For a description of the possible operations, see Series Popup Menu.
Hint: You can quickly expand or collapse file series by double clicking on them.
THE FILES
Files are identified by their normal file icons, these are the same as you would see in Windows Explorer or on your desktop. (See Figure 1)
These are the actual disk files that were scanned during the identification session.
Generaly, file operations are performed by using the right mouse button on them. For a description of the possible operations, see File Popup Menu.
Hint: Double clicking on a file opens it in your system registered viewer. This is usefull to view pictures, movies, etc...
THE CELEBRITY SUGGESTIONS
Celebrities are identified by their square check boxes followed by the celebrity name. These check boxes may or may not contain a red check mark. (See below)
Displayed celebrities may also bear a little icon to the left of their names depending on the celeb properties. (See Figure 3)
Some race, gender and various career information will also be displayed to the right of the celebrity name. See the celebrity editor for more information.
Celeb Properties (Figure 3)
These celebrity suggestions represent the actual identification results. Putting a check mark(Marking) beside a celebrity tells AutoSort that the file is related to that celebrity. This in turn, will cause AutoSort to toss(Sort) the parent file to a folder named after this celebrity during the Move/Copy operation .
Some files will have suggestions that are already marked for you. AutoSort automatically makes the marking when the entire celebrity name is found in the file name. Although this method saves you a lot of time and is about 99.5% accurate, it is recommended that you verify those automatically marked celebrities. For more information, see the No Auto-Select section of the Celebrity Editor .
This is where some efforts will be required from your part. You need to verify automatic markings and/or manually mark the right celebrity from the list of suggestions. If a file does not have a proper celeb suggestion, you'll have to use the [Identify As..] or [New Celeb...] features from the various popup menus and windows.
There is technically no limit on how many celebrity suggestions AutoSort can make for any given file. You may however impose a limit in the display Options.
You may also mark more than one celebrity suggestion when the file relates to several celebs. The implications of making such selections are discussed in the File Moving/Copying Options .
Generaly, celebrity operations are performed by using the right mouse button on them. For a description of the possible operations, see Celeb Popup Menu.
Hint: Double clicking on a celebrity name brings up the celebrity editor. This is used to view information about that celebrity and / or edit the information on the fly.
