Fairy Tale Lies When two people are truly meant to be together they'll usually be able to find a way, no matter what the cost. Childhood stories like Cinderella and Snow White tell us that dreams of true love eventually come true. Many people grasp this belief with both hands never letting it go, Rogue happens to be one of those people. She was locked outside the school in the pouring rain. Everyone else had gone with the kids on a field trip to see a friend of the Professor's. (Watching a bunch of teenagers with Hank and Logan didn't thrill her all that much so she opted not to go with.) "Now how does he DO this?" she thought to herself shoving a bobby pin into the keyhole. "Maybe if I just move it around a little somethin' 'll happen.........CRAP!" The bobby pin snapped in half just as a figure on a motorcycle pulled up the driveway. " Hey Chere. Mind if Ah ask what ya doin'?" "Ah just love standin' out in the rain 'n' gettin' soaked!" she said sarcastically. His only reply was a look he gave her occasionally, and it always managed to get her to "confess" everything. She hated it. " Okay Swamp Rat. Ah'm locked out of the dang house, 'n' ya stupid bobby pin trick ain't workin'." Managing to hold back his laughter, Remy approached the door, spent approximately two seconds working the lock, and opened it for a very wet, very cranky southern girl. She looked him directly in the eye, with an annoyed expression on her face, thanked him, and made her way up to her dorm room. As soon as she closed the door he quietly started to laugh to himself. After she had changed into an oversized, old blue pair of sweats she went downstairs and joined Remy in the kitchen. She pulled out a chair at the table and folded her legs under her as she sat down. " How can ya sit like dat Chere? Ya actually comfortable?" " This comin' from a guy who sits like that?" He had his chair pushed out pretty far, had one leg up on the table and the other rooted to the floor. "Fine. Here, Ah'm guessin' ya got stuck out there for awhile. Drink this." He said with a smile and handed her a cup of hot chocolate. "It'll warm ya up." " Hey, Swamp Rat, ya wanna go see a movie?" " Maybe." " They redid THE LITTLE MERMAID 'n' Ah'd like ta go see it." " Ya kidding right?" "No." " Ask Logan ta go with ya then." " Ah did, he said no." " Fine." *** They arrived home at about 6:00, everyone else had already made it back. They were greeted with a barrage of questions. "Where were you guys? It took us a hour and a half to get in the house. There was a bobby pin stuck in the lock!" Jean asked not looking very pleased. Rogue responded first, "It was mah fault. I locked mahself out." Logan barged into the conversation, "Hey, do ya mind tellin.' us where ya were?" "Remy took me ta the movies. I'm goin' upstairs." Logan exited the kitchen and passed Remy in the foyer. He shot him a nasty look and said, "If ya hurt her, I'll hurt you." " It was the movies, mon ami. How bad is dat?" " I'm not sure yet," with that Logan turned and headed up the stairs. *** "So, Joseph, you'd like to be a member of the team. For now we'll have to see about that, but you can be certain you will always have a home here." "Thank you Professor. Can I put my bags away now?" "Yes, Scott will show you where your room is, let me just....." He was cut off by a eavesdropping passerby. "Hey, Professor, don't bug Scott. Ah'm happy ta show the guy where he's stayin'." " Thank you Rogue. He'll have the room next to Gambit's. I do belive you know where that is located," the Professor said with a smug smile on his face. Glaring daggers at him she replied, " Ah won't get lost." She grabbed Joseph's bags and started off with him to find room 4A. " I'm Rogue." " I'm Joseph. Uh, thanks for helping me find my room." "No problem Joe. Ah'm stuck around this part of the buildin' a lot. Ah know mah way around. Here ya go, 4A." Just then Remy exited his room. "Hey, Chere." "Cajun, whaddaya want?" "Nothin'. Just goin' to play basketball wit da guys." "Ah gotta go. Oh, Remy, this is Joe. He's gonna be next door now." Rogue turned and quickly disappeared down the hall. "She's cute," Joseph said with a smile on his face. " Ah know," Remy replied firmly, his eyes beginning to glow. *** Within time Joseph and Rogue became very close. After only two months they were very good friends. Within six Joe had developed a little crush. But there were two problems, she couldn't touch him (yet), and there was always Gambit. Rogue and Joseph went out to see a movie and they returned at 1:00 a. m., Remy and Logan were waiting. " Shhhh. Ya gonna wake somebody up if ya keep making me laugh." " Okay, then I guess I'm gonna have to shut you up." With that he leaned in and gave her the perfect fairy tale kiss. The one she always thought would come from Remy. Then, Logan put on all the lights. "Hey kid. Hey, Joe. What's up? It's one in the morning. Or am I the only one who keeps track of the time around here?" " Really, Ah'm suddenly tired. See ya'all in the morning." With that she turned to leave, then remembered that Joe had kissed her, grabbed his wrist and dragged him along. Logan turned to a darkened doorway and asked, " Is there any chance you didn't see that?" Remy emerged from the doorway, just gave Logan a look, and walked away. Meanwhile, after dragging Joe up four floors she started asking numerous questions. "How did ya? What the? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Joe......what's up?" "I can, well, you know, sort of, touch you now." "Why?" she asked in a strange tone. " Does that matter? If we can be together, it doesn't. Does it?" " Well, no, but, us, in a relationship. Ah mean, Ah like ya 'n' all but what about-" He cut her off, "Remy. I'm willing to offer you more than he ever will." "But how da ya know that?" " Because I love you. I'm sorry to say so but I don't belive that Remy Le Beau does." *** "Gambit, I'm sorry you feel this way, but if you're determined to-" "Ah'm leavin'. Okay? Ah'll be outta mah room real soon." " I'll get Logan to help you with your bags." Packing up Remy's stuff was not an easy task, but for some reason, Logan seemed to have the patience to help him today. They got him packed up and loaded everything onto his bike. " Listen, Cajun. I guess I've been kinda rude to ya. I just wanted ya to know that you're my favorite. Besides me and the kid you're the only other one with character. I'll miss ya." He turned to walk away and then suddenly added. "If ya tell anybody I said this I'll find ya and I'll kill ya." It started to rain when Logan re-entered the house and Remy was making sure everything was secure. Rogue was waiting in the entrance way. "Where's he goin'?" " He's leavin' kid. He didn't tell ya?" A look of horror came across her face and she dashed outside in the rain. "Where are ya goin'?" she asked desperatly. "Ah'm not sure yet," he replied without looking up at her. "Ya cain't go." "What's keepin' me here?" he asked looking her in the eye. " Me. Ah love ya. Please, say ya love me too 'n' Ah'll give ya a reason ta stay. Ah don't care if Ah cain't touch ya." He broke the eye contact,"Ah don't love ya, Chere. But Joe does, 'n' he can make ya happier than Ah ever can." "No. It ain't supposed to work this way. We've gotta end up together." "Life ain't a fairy tale, Chere. And Ah obviously ain't Prince Charmin'. Just let me go." With that he got on the bike and drove away. He DID love her and couldn't ruin her life. Joe could wipe the tears away from her cheek, brush up against her and give her goosebumps, kiss her troubles away. Remy could never do that. He didn't look back, he couldn't. If he did he'd want to console her. The tears from his eyes blended with the rain as he turned down the street, once agian leaving his life behind. Only this time it pained him to do so. The last image he saw of the only girl he'd ever love was a sad one. She sat on the lawn in her silky blue dress. The one he'd gotten her for her birthday. Her face in her hands and the tears pouring from her eyes harder than the rain falling from the sky. Her fairy tales lied.
