The Dream By: indybean33@aol.com this is my first try at fanfiction. so bare with me. I ran throught the woods, wind ripping my hair away from my tear streaked face and branches scraping at my bare arms. Why was this happening again? I wondered silently as I ran around a tree, standing very still and trying to catch my breath. The damn dream wouldnt go away. Every night it was the same. Me running, hiding behind the same large maple, following a path my subconscience seemed to know but I couldnt place. Then, when I reach a certain spot in the darkening woods, I wake up. Scared and even more confused then I am in the dream itself. I took one more deep breath before racing ahead again. A gasp from my pursuer and then I hear him running close behind me. I reach a fork in the path, left or right. "Damn it Rogue, make up your mind." i mutter to myself, quickly deciding on the left path. And suddenly, I was falling. I shot out of bed and hurridly stifle a scream. I threw off the blankets and sat for a minute, staring out the window of my room. The mansion was quiet. Almost seeming deserted. It was late, or rather, early. And everyone was asleep. Satisfied that my breathing was something near normal I stood and went to the bathroom. Gazing at myself in the mirror I shuttered. Three weeks without a full nights rest put emmence strain on a girls features. And bags beneath her eyes. I turned on the facaet, letting the ice cold water fill the sink. I stripped off my gloves and plunged my hands into the water, smiling at the feel of the cold liquid surrounding my fingers. I cupped my hands and splashed a few fist fulls of water on my face. When I looked up at my reflection again, Remy was behind me. I turned and smirked. "Did I wake you?" I asked politely, not liking the way my body reacted to his eyes. And the way his eyes reacted to my body. I wiped the dripping water from my face with a towel. "No, i just wanted to make sure you were ok. Youve been getting up a lot lately at night." "Yea, and there isn't anything either one of us can do about it. So go back to bed and i'll try to be quieter next time." "I dont want there to be a next time. Let me help you." I wiped my hands and put my gloves back on. putting a hand on my hip. "How do you propse you're going to do that?" He shrugged, stepping closer to me. "I'll think of something." "I'm sure you will. but not tonight, maybe in some alternate universe." "How many of those do we have to have chere? Before you realize i love you in this universe?" I sighed. "Let it go, you cant help me with my demons." "At least let me know if i'm one of them." "No, you aren't but that could change if you dont let me go to bed." "I want to help you. Talk to me." I shook my head. "Not tonight." But he was pleading. His eyes emitted a sense of wanting. God I wished I could talk to him. Tell him the dreams , the running, being so scared my very heart felt like it was screaming with me. He most of all would understand. Better then the others would. But, oh what the hell. "Fine. But not here. Meet me on the roof in five." I walked past him before catching his reaction. I went back to my room to throw on a sweat shirt. The roof would be cold and I didnt want to risk Remy trying anything. Bare skin was so dman dangerous. I flew out the window and up to the roof, sitting quietly waiting for Remy. The night smelt faintly of burning wood, summer was almost over and the air was crisp, the wind reminding everyone of autumns arrival. Crikets chirped their sad song below and frogs croaked in tune with their mates. I took a shaky breath as Remy sat beside me. "I'm here." he slowly grabed my hand and squeezed. Despite the gloves, I could feel the warmth imenating from his touch. "This will take a while. So be patient." "I will. Take as long as you need to." "I've been having these dreams. Running throught the woods like i'm being chased down. But no matter how fast I run I cant shake them. And my powers wont work, so i cant fly out of the trees. And I hear 'em behind me. Breathing hard and triumphantly, like they've already won. And I hide behind this huge Maple. But I know they can still find me. So I keep running." I wiped a tear from my face. "I run away from the tree and I can hear 'em after me. Closer then they were. And then I come to this fork in the road. And I take the left turn, and then I fall. But I've taken the right too. And I still fall. Damn it, no matter which way I turn I dont make it. I still feel like I'm falling, like I'm reaching for roots and they just slide with me. And the bottom isn't that far off." There was a long silence after I finished. Remy seemed deep in thought. He sqeezed my hand again before talking, "I cant catch you chere, but if you want me to, I'll throw you a rope. And all you have to do is grab it. And i'll do the rest." I smiled, wanting more then ever to kiss him. I put my hand to his lips and kissed my glove. Not the same, but it was as close as I was gonna get right now. --part1_44.111aefd1.289b6688_boundary Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit this is my first try at fanfiction. so bare with me.
