Sometimes Weddings ARE The Place To Fall In Love By : Bethany It's midnight and pouring rain outside the Xavier School for gifted youngsters in Westchester, New York. On a night like tonight, it's hard for anyone to sleep, especially a young southern girl, whose heart is the cause of her distress. Thinking to herself she analyzes the situation, " Ah'm happy with Joe 'n' all, there's just one problem, Ah cain't stop thinkin' about Remy! The dang Swamp Rat! Ah'm not gonna get any sleep with the weddin' comin' up! Ah need somthin' ta drink." She emerges from her bedroom in a fuzzy, pink bathrobe. The distinct sounds of her bare feet on the hardwood floor are the only things that can be heard over the rain. She approaches the fridge, opens it and pulls out a cold bottle of water, and without even turning on the lights she sits down at the table and starts to drink. From behind her she hears a voice that makes her jump. "Couldn't sleep either, eh, kid?" "Oh. Hey, Logan. No Ah cain't get ta sleep, weddin' an' all." "You sure about your choice, I'll help you get out if you want me to." "Nah, Sugah, Ah'm all right, Ah can handle it." " Kay. Then I'm goin' back to bed, you don't need me but I need sleep. Night kid." "Night Logan." The next day was more beautiful than anyone would've hoped for. It was April 15th, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and Rogue was getting married! In her room Jean, Betsy, Carly, Hayley and Ororo were bustling about her getting her ready for the big day. "Look at the gorgeous veil!",exclaimed Carly. Ororo stated matter of factly,"Pearl head piece." "Back off! Move it! Comin' through! Best friend here!" A woman about 5'2'' pushed through all the girls and made her way over to the bride. All you can see of her is her 6'1'' wings that seem to cut and dodge between the noisy women and bridal apparel. "Hon! What's wrong it's your wedding day, SMILE!" "Gal, as mah maid o' honor will ya do me a favor?" "Sure sweetie what?" "Hayley leave this where Remy can find it. Please!" "Yeah, sure, I'll go give it to him now and follow you to the church with Logan." "Thanks Sugah." She quickly and tightly embraced Hayley as her bridesmaids and friends got her out of the house and into the limo. The speed off to the church just as a familiar motor bike pulls up the drive. "Cajun, she wanted me to give this to you, better read it or she'll have my head. Wait, Logan, I'm comin' with you! I'll see ya at the wedding if you're comin'. I know she wants you to." "Yeah, Ange. Ah might show, but dat ain't likely." Gambit wasted no time in opening the letter that was written in an all to familiar writing. It even smelled as sweet as his beloved southern belle. Remy, I know I'm supposed to be gettin' married today. There's just one problem,I think I still love you. If you come today before the wedding and say what I'd love to hear I'll leave him and run away with you until we can return. If you don't come I'll know you don't love me and that I'm makin' the right choice. See you soon? Chere The note gave him a burning sensation behind the eyes. He didn't know whether it was anger or what. He loved her but she left him for Joseph and......... He entered the Xavier mansion through down his pack by the doorway and entered the kitchen. He sat and stared at the envelope, a true mark of confusion: his eyes looked hollowed out, he kept licking his lips bitterly, and his expression didn't show happiness or hatred; he slumped in his chair, he ran the note between his fingers, and his feet rested playfully on the table; he still loved her, but he didn't know how to tell her without being hated by everyone, for once, Remy LeBeau was speechless. 11:55. They getting married at noon and the chapel's about seven minutes away. As if he'd had an epiphany his eyes flashed and he jumped from his seat, bolted to the door, hopped on his bike and was gone! "Baby, the wedding was supposed to start ten minutes ago, if we don't start soon people will be angry!", Hayley called through the dressing room door. "Ah know that. Just five more minutes okay." Rogue sat alone on the dressing room floor. (Jean and Hayley would have her head if the saw her. She's ruining her dress.) Tears welled up in her sparkling green eyes and she stared at her skirt as a couple drops hit the silky, white fabric. Suddenly a familiar voice rang out and a gloved finger picks up her chin. "Chere, ya look great." Startled, she jumped at the sight and sound of him, "Remy? Ah thought ya weren't gonna come. Did ya get my letter?" "Yeah chere, Ah got it." "Well. Do ya hate me now for bringin' it up?" "It's hard ta hate da woman ya love right after she tells ya she may still loves ya. After all dat's happened." "Ya still love me, sugah." "Why else would Ah have come chere? Ya know Remy ain't too fond o' Joe." With that said he helped her to her feet. They stared at each other for a few seconds in silence, then finally, Rogue spoke. "Ah heard that with ya new powers ya can---" She didn't have time to finish for he swept her up into his arms and kissed her. " Ya, chere, Ah can." Suddenly a gruff voice penetrated the bubble the two had been in."Kid, you comin out soon. It's been 15 minutes now. Unless you're havin' second thoughts." Logan yelled through the door, which was followed by angry whispers telling him not to say such things. "Sugah, one question, what about them?" "Mah bike's parked outside the window." "Cajun, you're crazy, Ah'm in mah weddin' dress." "Look chere, ya wanna get outta here or not?" More pounding and yelling came from the opposite side of the door. "Let Logan in chere, he's like ya Dad, he'll help." So, she poked her head out and asked Logan to kindly enter, ALONE! "Look, Sugah, Ah still love Remy 'n' Ah cain't marry Joe. Ah hope ya understand 'n' the fact is Ah don' know how to face the others." "Leave it to me kid. I had a gut feelin' something like this would happen." And with an emotional hug Logan went out to lie to the world about why the bride wouldn't be getting married. Remy opened the window and helped her out, though it helped that they were on the first story. He then climbed out the window that he entered through. The two hopped on the bike and were gone. And of all her days on this earth, Rogue knew she was her happiest. Right where she belonged, on the back of Remy's bike, with her arms around him, wedding dress or not. The End?
