This is the home page for the Garavito family of Santafé de Bogotá, Colombia. It was created by Alicia Garavito de Starr. The coat of arms shown here was drawn on the computer by me, Alicia, from an oil painting made by my father, Guillermo Garavito Cadena. There are two other interpretations of the Garavito coat of arms. The most famous Garavito is Julio Garavito Armero, my great-uncle. He lived from 1865 to 1920 in Santafé de Bogotá. He was a Mathematician, a Civil Engineer, and director of the Observatory of Bogotá. His nickname was "El Sabio". On October 3, 1970, a crater on the far side of the moon was named in his honour "Garavito Crater". This is the family tree which shows my relationship to Julio Garavito and my immediate family.
