The relationship between the duo was believed to be frosty when
Richards arrived before the start of the season after his close
friend Craig Pollock quit as Managing Director.
There was even speculation the French Canadian may not see out
the season with the team.
But at Interlagos Villeneuve said he has a contract for another
season with the team and would like to turn BAR into a winning
outfit.
He welcomed Richard's staff cuts and said that finding a new
technical director was the right thing to do.
"I didn't know David Richards when he arrived," said
the former champion. "But we know each other a little bit
better now.
"There is respect and we seem to get along well together. I
get a positive vibe from him. He seems to be a racer and not a big
company man, which is a very good thing."
The Canadian was upbeat in Brazil, even though he said the
effects of the departure of 40 staff would not be felt for a couple
of months.
"Matters have been taken into hand for the team to
change," said Villeneuve. "But I have been here since the
beginning and would still like to have success with this team and to
give it a win.
"It now looks like things are happening that could allow us to
do that."
Asked about his contract he said: "I am contracted for at
least another year but I am not allowed to say more than that. There
are legal ways to break contracts but it is never a nice way to do
things."
