British American Racing is planning to bolster its relationship with
engine supplier Honda by setting up a special development programme
for the Japanese manufacturer, according to this week's Autosport
magazine.
Honda's V10, which powers both BAR and Jordan, has disappointed
this year. The teams are the only ones not to have scored a point in
Formula 1 this season.
Speculation is rife that Honda will cut back to supplying just
one team for 2003, and that Jordan will have to pay for its engines
if it is to continue with the manufacturer.
BAR is strengthening its ties with Honda by setting up a special
test squad to be run by Jaguar's chief race engineer Mark Ellis, who
is expected to switch teams in the next few weeks.
BAR boss David Richards refused to confirm that a second test
team is planned, but did admit: "There is a long-term
development programme with Honda."
