Over the past 142 years, TAG Heuer, the undisputed leader in the
area of prestige chronographs and sports watches, has drawn its
values from the world of motor sports and more particularly, from
Formula One racing. The brand has held the highly coveted role of
Official Timekeeper of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship since
1992 and is also a partner of the McLaren-Mercedes team and of many
drivers.
Jean-Christophe Babin, TAG Heuer's President and Chief Executive
Officer was truly delighted to announce the partnership between
Jacques Villeneuve and TAG Heuer for their first range of Sport
Vision prescription eyewear and sunglasses. Villeneuve will be
joining the ranks of the world's greatest Formula 1 champions, such
as Niki Lauda, Jody Scheckter, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna and more
recently Mika Hakkinen, who have all worn their colors.
"Jacques' character and achievements make him a unique
champion. He is currently the only person actively involved in the
circuit to have won the superlative Formula 1 title, the
Indianapolis 500 and the prestigious American championship CART. He
is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats," said Babin.
Like all TAG Heuer ambassadors, Jacques Villeneuve will be
involved in designing new models and in developing new features for
both prescription eyewear and sunglasses. The Canadian driver is
actually one of the few sports people at this level of competition
to wear prescription glasses and the partnership will therefore be
very valuable.
"I am happy to be joining the "dream team" of TAG
Heuer ambassadors. TAG Heuer's philosophy, like that of Formula One,
has always been driven by a quest for performance and this is what
gives them their inimitable status," Jacques said. "In
addition to this, sight is an extremely important factor in sport in
general and even more so in Formula 1 racing, since just like
weather conditions, it is an area requiring absolute precision.
"Sport Vision" prescription eyewear and sunglasses are
undoubtedly at the cutting edge of technology, comfort and
design."
Sports Vision's distinctiveness is actually due to the unique
combination of titanium, magnesium, aluminum and vulcanized rubber,
which gives it outstanding ergonomic performance, in terms of both
comfort and design. These materials are also found in Formula 1 and
in TAG Heuer chronographs, such as Kirium Formula 1, Kirium Ti5, and
the brand new Micrograph Formula 1.
"His personality, which is very close to TAG Heuer's values,
such as - exceeding your limits, facing daily challenges and also
passion - seemed to make this a natural and appropriate
partnership," added Jean-Christophe Babin. "Along with the
other TAG Heuer ambassadors, Jacques Villeneuve will soon be seen
wearing "Sport Vision" glasses in the TAG Heuer
advertising campaign 'What are you made of?' launched on the
international market in March 2002, and will be involved in public
relations events for the brand over a period of three years."
