Days after it was
revealed that the offer for Jacques Villeneuve to drive in CART had
been made only verbally, Gerry Forsythe, the team boss who is trying
to secure the services of the Canadian, has said a written proposal
has been put to Villeneuve's manager Craig Pollock for
consideration.
'I found out late last week that the
written offer was not made to Mr. Pollock, Jacques Villeneuve's
manager,' Forsythe said in a press conference in Denver on the
weekend. 'It was offered verbally.'

'However, Craig,
declined the verbal offer, but he reported to me that that was part
of his negotiation. I phoned (BAR Team Boss) Dave Richards on Friday
and respectfully requested that he put the offer in writing and give
it to Mr. Pollock this weekend.
'I'm expecting a call
from Mr. Pollock or from Mr. Richards by tomorrow (Monday).'
Forsythe, along with
British American Tobacco and Villeneuve's current employer British
American Racing, are reportedly proposing that Villeneuve drive for
one season in CART next year and then return to Formula One in 2004
and 2005. The move would suit Forsythe who wants to give his loyal
partner, the BAT-owned Player's, the ideal send-off before it is
forced to withdraw its sponsorship due to new restrictions, and
David Richards who wants to spend less on driver salaries and more
on car development.
Earlier, Forsythe was
quoted as saying Pollock had rejected an offer for the move to
happen, which both Pollock and Villeneuve firmly denied on the
weekend in Belgium.
Villeneuve at the same
time made clear he would at least be receptive to the idea of
driving a season in the States.
