The future of Jacques
Villeneuve has been a constant topic of conversation for the past
few weeks, the latest in a long line of rumours being that the
Canadian driver is heading to the Toyota outfit next year. Although
Jacques has a contract for the 2003 season, the rumours continue,
including most recently, confusion over a US 50 million dollar deal
to return to the CART series.
Villeneuve, together with manager and
friend, Craig Pollock, denied the offer of a deal was never made
from the American based series, but it has left many baffled as to
why such tales are being told, including Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine.
The Irishman can't understand why everyone is so intent on wanting
to rid the series of the 1997 champion, especially as he is one of
the few racers left that can be classed as a 'star'.
