Take
David Richards. I'm going on the assumption that he must be a
reasonably intelligent guy. So the news that he was proposing a
reality show-type shoot-out for the second seat at BAR initially
made me laugh with incredulity. But the next reaction I had was
this: How great must Mr. Richards' dislike of Jacques be to propose
this latest humiliation? As the news spread on the internet like a
virus, reactions were varied. Fans of JV at their kindest called DR
a w**ker, others said that it's not the first time a shoot-out
determined who earned an F1 seat. True enough. But these events were
held privately, and between pilots fighting to earn their first
drives. On the more positive side... It was great to see
Jacques finish 6th at Monza. Surely it must have been a morale
boost. But as Jacques was quoted by Autosport.com, "The
sad thing is that it will have no effect on what happens with me
next year." We can only hope that this sad saga will be
resolved soon and with a positive outcome for Jacques. One last
word on Monza An odd thing happened after the race. During a
post-race interview with Christian Tortora of RDS, we could
see DR in the background. After Jacques finished his interview, the
cameras kept recording and in comes Mr. Richards with very public
and "sincere" congratulations to his "buddy"
Jacques. What we call in French 'l'accolade de la mort.' The look on
Jacques' face as he turned away was, as they say, priceless. Now,
bring on Indy. Salut,
anne-marie P.S. Merci, Jacques.
