Yu Yu Hakusho
Genre - Supernatural Action, with comic elements often thrown in.
How Many Episodes? - 112 TV episodes, at least 2 movies. 19 manga volumes, with 18 available in French from Kana.
Subject Matter? - There is violence, and sometimes we see blood as a result. Big whoop.
Background Knowledge Required? - Although you really don't HAVE to known how the main characters come together in order to understand any given story, it would help. It's explain in the first 12-ish episodes (4 manga volumes)
What's It About? - The plotline involves a 14-year-old who has been resurrected in order to become a Spirit Detective due to his extraordinary powers. He is joined by others along the way, and together they fight evil.
That's about all I can say without spoiling anything.
Rating - 8.5 out of 10.
Why? - There's some cool fighting, neat-o powers, and some funny bits too. And they're right, Botan's cuter in the manga...
Where can I find it? - The first two (only two?) movies are commercially available, check the common mail order sites. The TV series is as yet unlicensed, so poke around fansub pages to find tapes.
And what about the manga? - The anime version does follow the manga quite closely, but there are a few extra stories in the manga version that explain everything a bit better. You can easily find the books in larger Montreal area bookstores
