Epilepsy

Epilepsy is characterized by a decrease of the NAA signal intensity in the ipsilateral region i.e. in the affected region. Figure 1 shows spectra recorded for a patient with temporal epilepsy in the regions of interest located in the right temporal lobe and in the left temporal lobe. The NAA signal is clearly diminished in the right temporal lobe relative to the left temporal lobe, demonstrating that the epileptic seizure focus is on the right side.
