The MRS Instrument

The instrument used for MRS measurements is the same as the instrument used for MRI exams. It consists of a superconductor magnet with a horizontal cylindrical bore sufficiently large for a patient to enter. Different antennas are used depending on the organ studied (head coil, body coil…) and on the nucleus observed. The exam is controlled by an operation console. Our team uses a GE Signa imager-spectrometer operating at 1.5 T. This instrument is installed in the Radiology Department at Saint-Luc Hospital, CHUM. 3 T MR instruments are accessible at the Montreal Geriatric Institute (Siemens) and in the CHUM (Philips).
