Paul Trollope

Just found out about this website from a friend.  I'm Paul Trollope, went to SHS from the Fall of 1966 (Grade 9) until the Spring of 1969 (Grade 11 - graduation) when the school closed, so I was in the last graduating class.  After many years at Bishop's, I moved to Toronto to go to law school and am still there now.  Have been practising criminal law for 27 years.  I recognize some of the names on the website:  John Verlinden (one of my former Scoutmasters), Wally Coombs, Rick Jackson, Linda and Paul Molnar.  The only Sherbrooke High person I run into these days is Steve Connor, also in Toronto.  Gerry Ride, who went to St. Pats, is also here.  If anyone wants to drop me a line.

Paul's E-Mail: trollope@istar.ca

Linda Molnar, I tried to send you a message, but the e-mail address is no longer valid and the message came bouncing back. Do you have an updated one?

Linda Molnar

My brother and I went to SHS back in the sixties.  Actually I was at
Mitchell  and only went to SHS for one year before we went to Montreal.
That was the last year for the school because we were all going to go the
Regional school.  My brother, Paul Molnar was on the basketball team and
the chess club.  I think that was in 1965-66.  Anyway, if anybody who
went there in 1967-68 remembers a Linda Molnar please send me a note.

(Hi to all from Dave Cox. I attended Mitchell '62-'63 and SHS '63-'67. Heard about this site from Fred Silny in Los Angeles. We hung out just like old times when I lived there in '84-'86. Have lost touch with most old schoolmates, but did visit Margot Campbell in Buffalo, and have heard from
Renee Kessler, Alan Jones, and Jim Westerman. Gordon Loomis was living in
Halifax but I haven't seen him in years.
Quick recap of the past 31 years or so: Went to McGill for a B.A.  Started
an M.S.W. degree at Dalhousie in '71 and finished in '75 after 2 years
working in P.E.I. Have worked in the Mental Health field since then - which
may amuse some former schoolmates and teachers - first in a general
hospital and then 19 years at the Atlantic Child Guidance Centre in
Halifax. Got another Masters and became a Psychologist along the way. Took
a severance package - alas, not retirement! - in late '96 and am now in
private practice specializing in Psychological Assessment. I love doing
assessment and no longer doing treatment, but don't like the business side
much.
Personally:  Have loved the Maritimes since my first exposure in '68, and
couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I finally married in '81, and got it
right the second time in 1990, 2 days after my 40th birthday. Became a
stepparent in the process and, in 1995, a step-grandparent,
which seems more palatable to my self-concept than being called a
grandfather.

UPDATE:

Not much to add in terms of personal news. I'm still in private practice as a Psychologist. Got through Hurricane Juan in the Fall of 2003 with less damage than many people, although our power was out for a full week. Called Fred Silny in Los Angeles in the middle of it so he could hear what a hurricane sounds like. I now have two step-grandkids, Nicholas (going on 9) and Rianne (pronounced Ryan - going on 4). I don't ski or scuba dive any more - my new expensive and dangerous habit is riding my motorcycle (Suzuki Volusia 800), like all the other 50-something males seem to be doing nowadays.
I'd love to renew some old friendships. Please email me at
cox@coxbeaton.ca .  My home address is 6321 Edinburgh St., Halifax
N.S. B3L 1W3. Phone: 902-454-2535. À bientôt.

Sue Hogan (Bennett)

The last reunion was excellent it was wonderful to be able to see so many old friends from Mitchell, SHS, St. Pats & MND.  I have been looking for Kathy Richardson-Smith for the past few years and would be greatful to anybody who could tell me how I might contact her.  I am alive and well in Ottawa now, via Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto.  Hoping to be able to arrange to get to Sherbrooke this time as well.

Learned my chops on Jerry Lee and Fats at Hi-Y dances 56-58.  Spent 12 years in the RCAF after SHS  before I realized how much I loved radio.  I'm Rev. Garlands son . St. Andrews Presbyterian is now a parking lot  and the old Manse where I grew up on Portland Ave. is now" La Vieux Presbytere"..a nice B&B. Anybody know what happened to Judy Young? We were supposed to be celebrating our 40th anniversary this year.   Drop a line  Cheers Pete.

Ken MacRae

I attended Mitchell school and SHS for one year in '52-'53 and would have graduated in 1956. My memory tells me I had many great friends growing up in Sherbrooke and if anybody remembers me I would like to hear from them. I left Sherbrooke in 1953 and moved to Vancouver. I now live in Calgary after stops in other Canadian cities. Sherbrooke was a great place to grow up and I have fond memories I would like to share.

Colin Jardine

Are there any class reunions for the class of '45? After completing Grade 12 @ Granby in '47 I indulged in minor hell raising until entering Queen's in '51 and graduated in Mining '55. Until retirement I disappeared into the mining world and then returned to the Townships. Currently involved in x-country skiing, ski-dooing, beekeeping, reforestation, travelling & odd off-shore assignment.   Interested in meeting '45 graduated to compare war stories.

Alan Trussler

I attended Sherbrooke High School and graduated in the class of 1954-1955. SHS was a great school with great students and teachers. I especially think of "Doc" Porter, Gerry Rockwell and Royce Gale to name a few. I have been retired since December 1990(early retirement) and am now living in Kitchener On., after spending time living and working in both Montreal and Toronto. I am doing work here as an Employment Consultant with a non-profit Community Relief Agency in downtown Kitchener.

Howdy folks,
Just firing off a short note to say Hi to folks from out of the haze of the past. Graduated in '65 and ended up in Powell River, BC. where I work as a marine surveyor. Havn't had any contact with any of the SHS folks for way too long, other than Pete Holt and Gail Filgueira  (Formerly Bishop.) Drop me a line if you're so inclined.

Have yourself a great day, unless you've got other plans.

Rick Jackson

Hi there, I ended my stint at SHS in 1967, and am looking for John Williams, who lived on Russell Street. John and I roomed together for 3 years at UNB in Fredericton.  I ended up in Toronto - John somewhere in eastern Quebec (Gaspe) I believe.  Does any have an address for him?

Leonard Ryan here, graduated 1955. Does anybody know anything about the Class of 55 reunion? Or, duh, have I missed it? Anyway,  I am retired, living on the beach north of Powell River BC. Spent the last 10 years before retirement as a commercial diver and SCUBA instructor. Lots of adventures before that. Now watching the grass grow,  kayaking and motorcycling some.

Dave Neilson

I attended SHS after graduating magnum cum laude from Mitchell School in 1952. I quit SHS in 1953 after verifying some of the teachers really did wear Nazi SS uniforms under their three piece tweed suits. Then there was the principal, Mr. Gibson. I believe his nickname was "Hoot." He was a nice guy, a real gentleman. After being thrown out, I mean leaving SHS I bummed around for a few years and then went south and joined the Marines where I remained for 23 years. After that I went into the film industry where I still am today and when I'm not producing films, I'm on my ranch in Southern California where I raise Arabians and Thoroughbreds. Hey! We can't all be teachers pet. Dave Neilson

Mark Franklin

I just found out about this site after reconnecting with my old friend Alain Verlinden.  I met up with his sister Claire who married Jim Currier last summer.  I was good friends with both.  I was in the last graduating class of 1969 having attended Mitchell from '61 to '64 and SHS from  '64 to '69.  After SHS I attended Bishop's for a B.A. and then my Education Diploma.  I have been teaching school ever since.  Most of my time has been spent on the Gaspé and live and work in New Carlisle [famous as the hometown of Réné Lévesque].  I work with John Williams and we often talk about Sherbrooke.  Cheryl Kouri lives in New Richmond and passes on copies of the Sherbrooke Record.  I always look at the Obits first!    I was married for 25 years and separated in 2001.  I am now one of the success stories of internet dating and am seeing a very special lady from Campbellton NB.  I have no children of my own but brought up a nephew and he still considers my place "home".  Retirement looks good in two or three years and I love to travel!  Good to hear from Paul Trollope.  My mother [RIP last January] used to kept in touch with his mother.  It is good to keep in touch.
