When the 80's started, heavy metal bands were a common thing. But still, some people needed a little bit more...they needed black metal.....A band had started, without knowing it, a music style that would last for years to come...In 1982, VENOM put out an album that would definitively change the lives of tones of men and women.... this album was called BLACK METAL. VENOM had already started to use satanic and blasphemous lyrics, like today's black metal, and were the first ones to use it this way...A lot of bands had Satan in their mind at that time, but it wasn't the same with them.They were just trendies who had fun selling albums... You can not compare IRON MAIDEN'S Number of the Beast album with VENOM'S Black Metal.You just can't!!!VENOM may not sound like today's black metal, but it sure helped create a pure holocaust of music human race had not yet been able to deal with.......

Later on, other bands came and marked their time...QUORTHON, the genius behind the band BATHORY (as a tribute to ERZEBET BATHORY, also known as ELIZABETH, I will speak of her later on my page) spread what would become today's black metal...He created the atmosphere that is present in most of today's bands...And then came HELLHAMMER, and, of course, came MAYHEM, the band you get to know first when you hear about black metal. MAYHEM would not have been so known and popular if EURONYMOUS, the band leader, had not been there. He helped spread black metal around the world. You see, except VENOM, who were British, black metal bands first came from one part of our planet, Scandinavia. Today, black metal bands come from all over the globe, but at one time, it was almost unknown to individuals out of the frozen landscapes of Norway and Sweden. A circle was created, having for leader two friends who would become later some of the most known black metal figures:EURONYMOUS from the band MAYHEM, and COUNT GRISNACHT from the band BURZUM, which means darkness in norse. For nearly ten years, they would spread madness by burning churches and killings.....until one day in 1995, GRISNACHT killed EURONYMOUS.....A problem between their ideologies is behind. The Black Circle had a lot of crimes on their hands and police started investigating because of public pressure, which lead to the arrest of GRISNACHT, who know serves a 21 years sentence in ILA, the most feared prison in Norway.

Even though the Black Circle leaders are not there anymore to act in the black metal scene, Scandinavia still brings us some of the most excellent black metal bands there is, like DISSECTION from Sweden or EMPEROR from Norway.

Other parts of the world also brought us some good black metal bands, like ABSU from the United States of America, ABIGOR from Austria, ENTHRONED from Belgium, CRADLE OF FILTH from England, DENIAL OF GOD from Denmark and a lot of others...........
