| Day 5
part 3 It's
close to 5pm as I arrive at the Two
Wheels Only campground.
As the parking lot comes
to view I see it teeming with bikes,
parked here and there.
I pull in slowly, taking
in the scene and atmosphere and choose
one of the few empty spots. It happens to
be next to another red CBR929, identical
to mine.
The riders are gathered in
groups of varying sizes, just milling
around. It seems that many are locals,
having ridden up for the day from
Atlanta. It's now after 5pm and most are
going over and recounting the day before
heading back home.
I'm still on a mission of
sorts. I need to get signed in and then
go out to further explore while the sun
is still out. I quickly step up on the
main gallery and walk its length to the
back.
I cross a female rider
involved in a conversation. She's wearing
track leather pants. It's warm now and
her jacket is off. She's has a
Bohn/Knox-type back protector over a
sleeveless t-shirt. I casually comment on
the back protector as I walk past.
"Nice back
protector"
"Thanks"
They're carrying on a
discussion about a rider that is possibly
endangering others. Being in the
vicinity, I chime in a few words. That's
it. Nothing more. I keep exploring the
facility.
As I get back to my bike,
she's sitting on the 929 next to mine.
Hmm. . . This woman has taste in bikes.
:)
And so we get to chatting
a little, quickly discovering some
affinities. She enjoys track riding. In
fact she races a Yamaha Seca 600 for
excitement!
During the conversation, I
learn that she works at the BMW dealer in
Atlanta. I mention that I met her boss at
the rally just this morning which spawns
more conversation. Incidentally, our
bikes are the same year, same color and,
as it turns out, have near-identical
mileage. Don't know if this has any
cosmic significance. :)
Though many might describe
this 31year old as a ten, I generally
feel that physical appearance is not all
it's cracked up to be. My sense is it
goes beyond and I'll admit that she made
an impression on me.
She's smart, mature,
sensible, and is nobody's fool. My guess
is that she can give as good as she gets,
maybe more. Hmmm, Queen of Swords comes
to mind.
Unlike Queen of swords
(who I guess is single), she's in a
committed relationship. Likes cats too.
All in all, the
conversation is quite brief.
My attention now draws on
a growing concern. Some riders are
talking of probable bad weather rolling
in for the next few days. Information is
sketchy, but it sounds serious. There is
even talk of possible severe weather. It
doesnt look good.
Little did I realize. . .
