RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Ensure the continuous, effective and efficient performance of all CN mainframes, midrange and their associated peripherals.
o Inform management of workloads consumption trends and recommend future hardware upgrades to ensure an adequate performance at lowest costs.
o Monitor the response time and throughput of applications and balance workloads on available machines.
o Investigate, identify, and follow up with appropriate specialists to resolve problems.
o Provide all measurements on usage of computing resources for mainframe, LAN and UNIX.
o Train staff in tuning , SAS and MICS and related softwares and technologies.

A) PERFORMANCE:
o Since 1985, applied specialized expertise in tuning to permit CN business critical systems to benefit from the best performance available, especially when computers capacity was in short supply.
o Kept improving the end user response time. Set Service Levels Agreements.
o Balanced the batch initiators structure, I/O and datasets placement.
o Conceived tuning guidelines which became a standards known as the "Perf Bible".
o Participated in project design by identifying potential bottlenecks and estimating capacity requirements.

B) MICS and REPORTING:
o In charge of MICS database administration since 1987.
o Wrote procedures to accelerate production and rationalized DASD usage.
o Updated and improved the reporting to Management and Applications (Now on TSSP intranet).

C) CAPACITY PLANNING:
o In charge of Capacity Planning since 1992. Provided IT management with the appropriate information to delay costly hardware upgrades without impacting the users.
o AFE: Provided data for all AFE's and the acquisition of additional hardware.
o Disaster Recovery: Evaluated hardware requirements at disaster site.
o Developed a Model to measure latent demand on MVS computers and designed a weight/engines Simulator to provide IT with the first scientific recommendations for LPAR management.

D) UNIX and LAN:
o UNIX System Administrator since 1996. Identified most important Unix metrics, implemented first CN Unix measurements and set up backup strategies and disaster recovery requirements.
o Evaluated LAN tools, monitors and agents and implemented first CN LAN measurements.

E) WLM: Workload Manager:
o Implemented the first WLM Goal mode Sysplex in the world on one of the first CMOS machines in conjunction with IBM Poughkeepsie designers. Achieved effective Goal mode control of all development and production systems.
o Rewrote all existing reports for WLM and shifted the scope from "application" reporting towards functional reporting.

F) DB2/UDB:
o Joined the Unix DB2/UDB group in 1999. Broadened my scope by learning UDB, DB2-Connect, gateways and other related issues.
o Designed ADSM scripts to ensure database recovery.

G) SUPERVISION:
o Trained and supervised a dozen tuners, capacity planners, I/O and Mics administrators and filled in for Supervisor's position.
o Coordinated MRP "Material Resource Planning" Project installation.
o Coordinated EPS "Electronic Purchase System" Project installation.
o Coordinated Projects moves for workload balancing.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
A) CANAC and CONSULTATION:
o DPR: Rewrote the DPR process to meet Y2K compliancy adding new facilities and removing dependencies on Focus and Cobol.
o Designed the "MAILAWAY" utilities (used 830 000 times in 1999).
o INDIA: Designed performance and tuning parameters of Indian railway operating systems. Trained technical specialists from India Rail and made presentations to India Rail officials.
o CHINA: Designed performance and tuning parameters of China railroad operating systems.
o ILLINOIS CENTRAL: Estimated cost of IC merger and provided consulting services as required for CN-IC. Monitored IC performance.
o GTW: Key player in GTW integration due to my unique knowledge of VM Operating System.
o SITE SWITCH: Provided support during site switches and for disaster hot site tests.
o Member of the Windows 95 pilot with a special focus on TSSP usage particularities.

B) QAT AND FOCUS GROUPS:
o Member of Fred Grigsby's Focus group on TRAINING and Recognition in January 2000.
o RECOGNITION Task Force: Mandated by the president to be one of the 6 participants to introduce a "Recognition system for increased Productivity".
o DATA WAREHOUSE: Represented TSSP in the choice of technology for CN data warehouse, focusing on manageability and integrity issues.
o RECYCLING: Member of the Green Team paper reduction and recycling.
o BILINGUALISM: Key player of the CN bilingualism team to implement accented characters on all platforms and worked with the Gouvernement du Québec on the problem of SORTing accented lists.
o TIME MANAGEMENT: Member of the "Time Management Workshop" to prepare future courses.
