MAELSTROM’S SITUATION AS OF EVE OF TYRANNID INVASION

Old Imperial colony, founded 650 years ago by Rufus B. Lindbergh, A Imperial guard Colonel which led the 123rd Imperial infantry division and the 21345th and 21346th armored regiments against the then-inhabitants eldars. Destructions of the eldars was followed by the colonization of three of the seven worlds by the regimental personnel as Maelstrom was designated their new station.

Colony was overran by the Tau 172 years ago. After destruction of the resident planetary garrison by the Tau and subsequent annihilation of the imperial navy relief force by the tau navy, the colony accepted the protection of the tau empire. The old imperial generation is now long gone and while most of the humans have left for other imperial worlds, the large majority of the remaining ones are now loyal citizen of the tau empire, with two of their numbers high-ranking members of the local planetary government. Some occasional clashes by rebels imperial factions occur occasionally still. There is still many imperial caches on the planet and the insurgent legion benefits from it.

During Maelstrom’s annexation to the Tau empire, Melstrom secundus, four and six were basically obliterated as they were mainly military garrisons and the populations had to be transferred by the Tau to Maelstrom Prime for their survival after the war.

Now Maelstrom is a dynamic young colony on the fringes of the Tau empire. Its economy is booming and interstellar trade is starting to pick up. The only drawbacks are the frequent occurrence of warp-storms in its vicinity, which can stop interstellar contacts for years at a time on a unpredictable basis.
