Here is another simple step! On the
guitar that I build, the string nut sit in the tilted part of the peghead.
Therefore, I shaped the bottom side of the string nut to match the peghead
angle, using a file. In addition, I made a notch in the headstock overlay
veneer to accept the string nut. Still using a file, I gave the string nut
the desired shape. Finally, I stuck the string nut in the notch by using woodworking
glue. A simple drop of glue is enough to stick the string nut. Don’t forget
that the high pressure exerted by the steal strings will be sufficient to
hold the string nut in the slot. Also, for replacing the string nut, it will
be much easier to remove it if the string nut has been glued using just the
right quantity of adhesive.
