Installing The String Nut

Here is another simple step! On the guitar that I build, the string nut sit in the tilted part of the peghead. Therefore, I shaped the bottom side of the string nut to match the peghead angle, using a file. In addition, I made a notch in the headstock overlay veneer to accept the string nut. Still using a file, I gave the string nut the desired shape. Finally, I stuck the string nut in the notch by using woodworking glue. A simple drop of glue is enough to stick the string nut. Don’t forget that the high pressure exerted by the steal strings will be sufficient to hold the string nut in the slot. Also, for replacing the string nut, it will be much easier to remove it if the string nut has been glued using just the right quantity of adhesive.
