Many shows were recorded for the "24 Nights" project in 1990 and 1991. In
fact, "24 Nights" was originally to have been released in 1990, but Eric was
apparently dissatisfied with the performances and so postponed it for a year.
Interestingly, though, of all the tracks on "24 Night", EIGHT (!) *still* came
from 1990 shows... ;-)
The shows recorded were as follows:
24/01/90 - 4-piece. The entire set was broadcast on US radio. The
versions of "Running On Faith", "White Room" and "Sunshine of
Your Love" from "24 Nights" came from this show.
1/2/90 - 9-piece. Nothing ever issued.
3/2/90 - Blues Band. This show was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and
was subsequently remixed and rebroadcast on the same station.
5/2/90 - Blues Band. Some sections of this show have been issued.
"Worried Life Blues", "Watch Yourself" and "Have You Ever
Loved a Woman" all found their way onto "24 Night", while
several other tracks were broadcast on ITV show "Rock
Steady". Roberty missed that one - ha!
9/2/90 - Orchestra. "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Hard Times" were issued
on "24 Nights", the rest remains unreleased.
10/2/90 - Orchestral. This show was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and
was subsequently remixed and rebroadcast on the same station.
10/2/91 - 4-piece. Only "Badge" found its way onto "24 Nights". The
rest remains unissued.
17/2/91 - 9-piece. The show was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1.
18/2/91 - 9-piece. Loads of this show has been released. "Pretending",
"Bad Love", "Old Love" and "Wonderful Tonight" ended up on
"24 Nights", whilst "No Alibis", "I Shot The Sheriff" and
"Cocaine" were all released on various CD singles of
"Wonderful Tonight". Interestingly, the versions of "Old
Love", "Wonderful Tonight" and "Pretending" (2nd solo only)
on the "24 Nights" video are different from their album
counterparts, but they were *not* taken from the previous
night's show. They may even have been taken the year before.
Whoever knows about this isn't telling... ;-(
25/2/91 - Blues Band. This show broadcast on BBC Radio 1.
28/2/91 - Blues Band. "Hoodoo Man" found its way onto "24 Nights", the
rest remains unissued.
8/3/91 - Orchestra. "Edge of Darkness" from "24 Nights" came from this
show, the rest remains unissued.

Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on 24/01/90. 10 tracks on 1 CD. The quality rating doesn't show it, but I have been told that the sound on this CD is superior to "London at Night" and "Class Blues". I assume it is equal to its rerelease under the name "Wonderful Night" and "Love". (R.B.) See also:"Quartet" - EC IS HERE - EC IS HERE DJCOPY 61/62 - sb6

"Love" - Snake - Snake 009/10 - sb6
Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall, on 24/01/90 15 tracks on 2 CDs. Total time: 59:05/60:40 EC/Nathan East (bass)/Greg Phillinganes (keyboards)/Steve Ferrone (drums) Piano intro(ic)/Pretending/Running On Faith/I Shot The Sheriff/White Room/ Bad Love/Lay Down Sally/Before You Accuse Me/Old Love/No Alibis/ Tearing Us Apart/Wonderful Tonight/Cocaine/Layla/Crossroads (ic)/ Sunshine Of Your Love (ic) The source of this CD is different from all the others versions of this show. The audience clapping is hardly heard in places where it is prominent in the other recordings. For example, it is clear from listening to this version that the clapping before the rhythmic clapping, at the beginning of No Alibis was added for broadcast. This version is clean of this kind of edit, and despite how good the others are, this one is ** much ** better. Unfortunately, there are a few seconds missing from the piano intro, as well as a skip in Crossroads, and "Sunshine" fades out during the drum solo. Please note also that the incorrect date is listed on the cover (January 16, 1991). (R.B.) See also:"Quartet" - EC IS HERE - EC IS HERE DJCOPY 61/62 - sb6

Introduction/Bell Bottom Blues/Lay Down Sally/Holy Mother I Shot The Sheriff/Hard Times/Can't Find My Way Home/Edge of Darkness/ Old Love/Wonderful Tonight//White Room/ Concerto for Electric Guitar Part 1 & Part 2/Remark You Made & Layla/ Sunshine of Your Love This CD appears to be a copy of the Mid Valley release; the Mid-Valley jacket is the insert of this release. The sound quality is superb and not from the FM broadcast that was the source of so many of the other versions of this show. The quality is better than the Yellow Cat release. Here there is no "error" in the orchestral introduction, and many of the orchestral instruments are better mixed providing a better balance between EC and orchestra. A truly excellent recording! "Old Love" is cut during the keyboard solo (after the first guitar solo) and runs directly into the middle of Badge!!!! The 6 rating is not an exaggeration - this is an excellent audience recording. Standin' Around Crying & Ramblin' On My Mind/Hideaway/Watch Yourself/
Sweet Home Chicago
The *exact* track attributes are not known, although I would say (at a guess)
that the first 5 tracks are taken from 1990, then "Standin'..." and "Hideaway"
are taken from 1991, then "Watch Yourself" is taken from 1990 again and the CD
ends with "Sweet Home Chicago" from 1991. Until this can be confirmed,
however, I have not given the whole track attributes for definate. (J.M.)

Orchestral Intro/Crossroads/Bell Bottom Blues/Lay Down Sally/ Holy Mother/I Shot The Sheriff/Layla/Sunshine of Your Love If you've seen previous versions of this entry you'll note that I have upgraded the rating. I have just listened to this recording for the first time and compared it to the Yellow Cat version of the same show. The sound quality is not the problem with this CD (the sound is excellent). The problem is that the source of the CD runs slow (lowering the pitch). Since the rating is exclusively for sound quality, it is deserving of a sb6; however this should not be considered a recommendation for this CD. See also:

The sound quality has been disputed with ratings going as low as sb1 or sb2. I have also received a rating as high as sb6 from someone who collects large numbers of Clapton imports. This makes me wonder if there might not be more than one issue of this volume. The CDs have been recorded at a low volume. I find that when the volume is augmented sufficiently, there is more hiss than normal for a soundboard of this era. (R.B.)

Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 24/01/90. 12 tracks on 2 Cds. Total Time: 47:29/43:14 EC/Greg Phillinganes (Keyboards)/Nathan East (Bass)/Steve Ferrone (Drums) Pretending/Running on Faith/I Shot the Sheriff/White Room/ Before You Accuse Me/Old Love/No Alibis/Tearing Us Apart/ Wonderful Tonight/Layla/Crossroads/Sunshine of Your Love The date on the CD (7/2/91) is unfortunately erroneous. On the back of the case it says "This album was previously released as single CD album '7291 R.A.H.' (Off Beat: XXCD - 2)." Like "7291" this CD is superior in sound to the other releases of this show except "Love"; unfortunately, it is still less complete than many of the other versions. (R.B.)
