BERNADETTE ROULEAU-MORIN
1922-1999

BernPHOTO.jpg

.

French version

Third of a family of 11 children, mother of 2 sons, Jean and Daniel, grandmother of two adorable grand-daughters, Alexandra and Laurence, Bernadette is the first of her generation to leave us for her last voyage, on April 10th, 1999.

Just like her mother, about which she still often talked, she left the Saturday following Easter. Besides that, her funeral service took place at the anniversary date of the death of her mother which had occurred on April 17,1937. Three days before her cerebra-vascular accident, Bernadette had for the second time, emitted the wish to die holding the hand of each of her 2 nuns sisters,Cécile and Augustine. Her desire was concretised, even if she was in the coma.

At the bottom of the heart of all those who knew her, there will always be a memory, a feeling or a thought for Bernadette. She spread happiness and joy in life all around her.For her, everything was simple; not always easy, but with the energy that she put at it, she was always successfully. Surely and without being mistaken, one can say that her agenda was abundantly filled. Bernadette was always very active. After some less permanent employment, she worked more than 20 years at the grocery with Aimé, her husband, whom she joined 13 years later. She also worked in the cultivation of greenhouses tomatoes for more than 15 years.

Bernadette was a leader of several organisations like the Rouleau Association of America, of which she was president during 10 years, the lady farmer's circle which she directed during several years as president too. She was the instigator of the tourist visits of the parish church, of the Joy of Living organisation for the elderly people, to name only those. She was an active member of several other parochial organisations.

Bernadette was well implied in her community as well as the conservation and the valorisation of the patrimony and for the assistance to the needy. A true believer in God,she was faithful to the practice of her devotions and especially to the recitation of the Rosary. Everywhere where Bernadette was, at work or in leisure, she was the source of laughter and cheerfulness by her simplicity, her joy of living and her stories.

As well in the United States as in France and as in Canada, Bernadette had made many friends who came to visit her for all kinds of reasons. Like a magnet, she attracted, for example, the customers at the grocery, and later at the tomatoes greenhouses, the French tourists on a visit to Quebec, the Americans in search of information on their Rouleau ancestors, the friends of all classes of the society, and even politicians such as Rene Levesque and Joe Clarck, in the search of her human warmth.

Her preferred pastimes: flowers and plants that she cultivated in abundance, the birds, for which she made her yard the most inviting with food and shelters, and the travels, to find warmth in winter, and the friendly relations in the other seasons.

During the time of her legendary absences and considering her many activities, people who telephoned Bernadette heard, on her vocal box, her two grand-daughters humming folkloric tunes as her own way of introduction. She expressed a not very common singularity; having taken the habit of not having habits. She had organised her life for her greatest happiness, happiness which she shared with her close relations and her friends.

The last project of Bernadette, whom she did not have time to realise, was the contest of the most handsome man of the parish. It's sad that she left so early.

With the news of her death, all kinds of comments, impressed with surprises and sympathy, led to believe to her sons, grand-daughters and her brothers and sisters, that Bernadette should have been immortal to
continue to propagate her values, her ideas and her love.

Finally, from up there, Bernadette, take good care of your children, your grand-daughters, your close relations and all those who loved you and whom you loved so much on this hearth.
