STEELPAN MUSIC COURSES FOR ALL AGES
Salah's Steelpan Academy
I had been working with the Schools in Canada, introducing steelpan into their music curricula since 1991.By 1995 my family and I had been involved with various schools in the City of Montreal; Coronation, John Grant, & Shadd Academy High and Somerled Schools. By this time I had graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts, specialising in Jazz with pan, after three years at Concordia University.
Following on from this, and by which time in 1996 having been involved with an additional Adult Steelpan Program at Somerled School for Parents and Teachers; we had thoughts for starting our own steelpan school.
In 1997 we established our own private music school then called the Salah & Family Steelpan Music Academy. The intention of this school was to establish a base for teaching music with the steelpan and ultimately to achieve the status of an accredited school of music.
The Salah's Steelpan Academy is based in Montreal, and has shown a mark of success with an enrolment of over sixty students, of many ethnic backgrounds and ages; including a senior citizens group. Every semester more students from many diverse backgrounds are getting involved and enjoying the music and the environment of pan.
Participants of all ages are welcome. Those interested may apply to join the Steelpan Academy by selecting from the programs and courses that are described below.

LEARN MUSIC AND PLAYING THE STEELPAN
Steelpan Playing with Theory
Salah has now completed his book on how to play the steelpan entitled Steelpan Playing with Theory - released in December 1999.
Steelpan Playing with Theory is a wonderful introduction to the steeldrum instrument; combining a step by step approach to understanding the rudiments of music, along with a practical hands-on method of learning to play the steelpan.
