What Is Go?

In a nutshell, go is an oriental board game of skill played between two people. Played on board with 19 lines crisscrossing the surface from top to bottom and from left to right, each player takes turns placing black and white counters, called stones, on the vacant intersections. The object of the game is to surround more points of territory than your opponent (each vacant intersection counts as one point).

This definition is much too brief to be adequate, and it hides from view the incredible richness of the game. If you’re interested in obtaining more information on go, the links provided at this site will direct you to sources that can give you the location of the club nearest you. There, enthusiastic go players will be delighted in providing you with more details on how to play this wonderful game.

Browser and Platform Compatibility

Steven made efforts to make this site compatible with the two leading browsers (Netscape 3.0 and up, and MS Internet Explorer 3.0 and up). But, in general, for best results, you should view this site with Netscape. Some JavaScript is used here, and Steven was unable to resolve some of the incompatibility problems between the two browsers. (This notice applies almost exclusively to the Go Quiz page at this site).

In addition, viewing this site with a PC will display the pages available here in the way they were intended to be seen. When viewed with a Mac, some pages or features may not be displayed properly or, at the very least, not in the way they were intended to be seen. Lastly, although certainly not essential, this site may best be viewed on a monitor with a resolution of 1024 by 768.

By the way, the font used at this site is Comic Sans MS True Type. To maximize your viewing pleasure, please make sure to install this font on your system if it isn’t already.
