Challenge Cup 2007 Edition
Well, the 2007 St-Bruno Challenge Cup is officially over and we could not have asked for a better weekend in this the 10th edition of the Challenge Cup. The weather was on our side the whole weekend that seen 32 teams in the men’s division and 12 teams in the ladies going to bat for the children. Given all the sales of raffle tickets, t-shirts, hats, team pictures, food and beverages we were able to proudly write a cheque to the Children’s Hospital for a grand total of $38,000.
This year the winners in the ladies division with a repeat were the Soul Sisters, a team that has participated in the annual event since we expanded to a ladies division a few years ago.
In the men’s division the field of teams was strong again this year with the trophy up for grabs. And it was Boston Pizza for the repeat that ended up hoisting the hardware at the end of the weekend.
As usual numerous volunteers supported the event over the weekend, which without their help this tournament could not happen. You did not have to look far to find one; they were umpiring games, in the food tent, beverage tent and the Challenge Cup store.
On the Saturday the kids had a great time with the CTV and Q92 – Mc Cain Summer Extravaganza that entertained them with various games. Also as is the tradition, free face painting was available to the kids on Saturday and Sunday. As for the adults the group What is Hip entertained them on Saturday night, and fun was to be had by all, including John Bannerman from DEE, our main sponsor .
