5-STAND SPORTING
Five Stand
is very similar to Sporting Clays in that a wide variety of targets are
thrown. No two five-stands are exactly alike. There are five "stands" or
stations to shoot from. There are usually somewhere between 6 and 8
traps that throw targets. Participants shoot in
turn at each of the 5 stands and various combinations of targets are
thrown from the traps. Usually there is a menu card that will advise the
shooter of the sequence of targets. Five Stand is a great way to get a
Sporting Clays like experience in a small amount of space, with very
little walking.
There are
3 levels of difficulty: Level I : 5 single targets with full use of the
gun for scoring; Level II : 3 single and a simultaneous pair; Level III :
1 single and 2 simultaneous pairs.
Shooters (squad of five) can move
from station to station with a predetermined menu of shots and
combinations, or in a sequence unknown to the shooters.
EQUIPMENT
Firearms: The typical gun for 5-stand is a 12-gauge with the choke
of your choice (SK-IC-MOD) and a barrel 26-32 inches long.
Although many shooters favor over/under shotguns, pump and autoloading shotguns are also common.
Ammunition: The shotshells used in
5-Stand may vary
slightly with shooters preference and wind conditions. The standard load
contains 3 drams equivalent of powder and 1
1/8 ounces of # 71/2, 8 or 81/2, 9 shot. Loads with only 1 ounce of shot are also popular.
