Déja V-U’s DJ’s

DJ Vulcain

The story of passionate man

I was always interested by things that were out of the ordinary, eventually beginning with music and fashion. For many years, I've been evolving, and have gone through many a style of music, basking in their eccentricity, in all their forms. I've gone through the punk wave at the beginning of the 80's to finally end up with the fans of the obscure a few years later the people who loved Skinny Puppy, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, etc. explaining my underground background.

I started working in the “Dark” clubs when Ezra opened at the end of the 90's. I only really implicated myself in this world of darkness in the year 2000, with my own Metachrome nights at Sphinx. That particular event got me better known as DJ Vulcain.

In June 2001, there were big changes. I moved to the Saphir to keep on doing my Metachrome nights as well as my new Synthetic project, which would be a monthly event with a European flavour. This move didn't turn out as planned and I saw my nights going down the drain and followed up by Fuzion nights with DJ Mr.Black and DJ Schatten. After a while, I decided to put an end to this experience. I then gave it a last try at Sphinx, but the war that the two clubs were waging each other at that time was too much and Sphinx went down.

For a long while, I had been wanting to do a lounge night and it's when I visited the Pub Balafré that I was motivated enough to do it. At the end of 2001, I asked DJ Uriel if he'd like to team up with me for a real gothic rock night. He accepted and the project went underway and took place for the first time as DEJA V-U in January 2002. This night gives us both the chance to fully express our love for true gothic music. It had been too long since Montreal had such a night for this musical genre!

DJ Uriel

A lover of most morbid sounds, Uriel takes pride in playing as much sensual wrist-slitting music as possible. He has DJ-ed one-off events and regular club nights for the last several years, and has always tried to keep his nights as dark and brooding as possible.

He began spinning a goth night at the now re-interpreted Purple Haze, which was short lived but which led to a regular night at club Ezra and then club Redemption. In between, he did a series of nights at club Nexus and several evenings at Foufs in their Café Électrique. After that, he did a regular night for Club Fetish Montreal at Saphir and now finds himself doing monthly nights at Le Balafré with Déja V-U. He has participated in several one-time events, having appeared at Candleland (hosted by Mistress McCutheon of http://www.morbidoutlook.com), Apocrypha, The Montreal Samhain Soirée, Buried Alive III, and has guest DJ-ed at DJ Mr.Black's Darkwave Nights.

He is enamoured of expensive scotch and russian pelmenis.

"I have lived with shades, a shade;
I am hung with graveyard flowers.
Let me be tonight arrayed
In the silver of the showers."
