When he was 16 Wayne followed in the footsteps of his older sister (Valerie Caverly) and began a career in music. The instrument he chose was drums.
After learning the ropes in numerous "garage bands" including Whisper, Opposite Edge, and Anthym; Wayne found his most musically rewarding venture in 1978 with the group "Whimsical".
Comprised of Mike Hynes on keyboards; Larry Patenaude on vocals; Yves Pilon on six and twelve string guitar; Roland Breard on lead guitar; Andy Legault on bass and Wayne on Drums, Whimsical composed 5 original songs and finished in the top-20 on CHOM FM's l'esprit contest (best new band in Montreal) in 1978.
Also during this period, Wayne took a course in music theory and arranging from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. The course, offered through correspondence, provides a complete understanding of the principles of modern harmony, improvisation and dance band arranging.
Wayne continues to play (using Pearl, Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste acoustics, a modified Roland TD-8 electronic kit and a Mallet-Kat electronic mallet instrument).
Current projects include a Funk Fusion Project, a Jazz workshop series and a Classic Rock Band.
